In the history of the Patan, there is the two major cast who played major role. One is Jain and the Second one is Nagar. But when we specially talk about Jain people then how can we forgot about the two brothers named Vastupal and Tejapal in the ancient history of Gujarat. Both brothers had played a significant role in the development of the Gujarat state during their tenure and the history of Gujarat will remember them as a major developer of the state.

Who is Vastupal and Tejpal?

Vastupal and Tejpal were the ministers of the Dholka’s emperor Veer Dhaval. Both brothers were really very bright and have a very foresight vision. In the time of the bhimdeva II, He was just a nominal king, so in fact, only Vastupal and Tejpal ruled the state. With his ingenuity, he amassed a lot of wealth in business.

Vastupal and Tejpal : Story of the Delwada’s Temple.

A group of pilgrims has set out on a pilgrimage to Sorath. It is also joined by two wealthy brothers named Vatupal and Tejpal. These brothers were the most famous and wise ministers in the history of Gujarat. The journey was of a long time. The situation in the state was unstable. So they took almost all wealth with them. Along the way, they came up with the idea that it would be better to bury everything in the ground than to risk it. Will be taking it back when returning.

Thus thinking at night both brothers taking half of the money, they went out to bury it in the forest. Determining a place, they started digging with a shovel. When they opened a little bit, they saw the charu full of gold. The two brothers were amazed. What to do now? Going to bury their wealth, they got another treasure.

They came back down. Tejpal’s wife Anupamadevi was a very clever and wise woman. She advised both brothers to use this treasure for a noble cause. Instead of burying this money, she advised them to place it in a way that everybody can see. Both the brothers understood the gist of Anupamadevi’s words. They built Jain deras in Delwada on Mount Abu also in Palitana on Shetrunjaya mountain and on Girnar mountain.

Delwada Deras are most famous for their beautiful delicate carvings and made of vax. Vastupal and Tejpal’s wealth alone did not contribute to the constructions of such a wonderful Delwada dera. But Anupama devi’s resources and cooperation were also equally important.

In the temples of the Delwada, there are also relics of the wives of both the brothers. Craftsman of Delwada temples has built another temple in memory of Derani Anupamadevi and Jethani Lalitadevi- sacrificing their leisure time. This artistic temple is a tribute to the artisans.

The Untold Story of the Vastupal.

At that time, Delhi was the kingdom of the Mughal emperor. King Veerdhaval ruled in Gujarat at that time. Under his rule, the people were happy, contented, and humble. But even King Veerdhaval was constantly harassed by the fear of the Delhi army. It was not clean when Delhi would be attacked. King was constantly worried about how to avoid this fear.

As a minister of the state, Vastupal was wise, He was heroic and he was clever. The kind expressed his concerns to him. His shrewd minister understands the confusion of the Vastupal Rana. The news came that the mother of the emperor of Delhi was going to perform Haji in Mecca. Hearing this the minister was happy and went around. He put his diplomacy to work. At that time Vastupal had to go by sea from some beautiful port of Gujarat to go outside India. The Sultan’s mother flew from the port of the Khambhat to Mecca.

Gujarat is the Pirate in the sea of Arabian. The pirates were prepared by Vastupal. So the King’s Mother’s ship was looted and the complaint also came to minister. He ran. He assured the king’s mother that he will catch the criminals anyhow and he had done it within one day. He sent her mecca with a few turns. On her return from the Mecca, Minister gives him warm welcome.

The emperor of Delhi was surprised to hear from his mother’s mouth about the Vastupal. He wanted to meet him and repay this favor. Vastupl was called to Delhi and given a lot of respect. The emperor began to give him gifts and land, but the minister politely refused all these things and asked the emperor with love that “ if you have to give, I want your everlasting friendship with my king.” You promise, ‘ you will not invade Gujarat.

The emperor promised. He wanted the welfare of the state rather than making any selfish demands. He was a minister with such foresight and noble qualities. Vastupal was not only a diplomat, but also scholar and poet. He formed a circle of saraswat around himself. During his time Gujarat saw excellent cultural development.

Generosity of Anupama Devi.

While Delwada’s work was going on, Anupamadevi received a complaint that the work was going very slow. She asked a leading sculptor named Shobhan for this. Shobhan said: “It is very cold on Mataji mountain so that the artisans cannot work in the morning and evening. They also spend their time cooking. She understood the difficulty of the artisans. She arranged fireplaces as well as cooks. The number of artisans increased and the work of the temples was completed as soon as possible by working day and night.

Thus, the craftsman got excited by the convenience. They got paid for the carving as much as they could. Due to the great builders of the Delwada and passionate sculptors who built it, these Dehraduns became so beautiful even after a thousand years, It is considered as one of the most beautiful sculptors in the world.
